The Stranger is a 1946 American film noir directed by Orson Welles and starring Welles, Edward G.

Robinson, and Loretta Young.

The film was based on a screenplay by Victor Trivas and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Synopsis:
Investigators from the War Crimes Commission travel to Connecticut to find a notorious Nazi.

Wilson of the War Crimes Commission was looking for Holocaust mastermind Franz Kindler, but he had effectively erased his identity.

Wilson frees Kindler's former companion Meinike and follows him to Harper, Connecticut, where he is killed before he can identify Kindler.

Wilson's only clue was Kindler's fascination with antique clocks.

But while Kindler seems at ease with his new self, he senses his past looming over him.
