It was adapted into a film by Edmund Goulding and directed by Henry King for Inspiration Pictures.
Tol'able David has been selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being ``culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.''
Synopsis:
When three thugs hold him responsible for his father's death and his younger brother's terminal illness, young David is forced to choose between supporting his family or risking his life for revenge.
